Khor Mor gas field — missile strike on condensate tank

What happened

Operator Dana Gas confirmed that a missile — later identified from recovered fragments as a 122mm Grad rocket launched from roughly 3km away — struck one of the condensate holding units at Khor Mor late on 27 July, igniting a fire that crews extinguished. A drone launched toward the site in the same attack crashed outside the facility without causing damage. No staff were injured, but production was halted for a damage assessment. Khor Mor normally supplies gas to power stations providing more than 80% of Iraqi Kurdistan's electricity; the KRG Ministry of Electricity said generation fell by about 80% as a result, forcing rationing to hospitals, water projects and essential services, while Iraq's federal grid separately lost roughly 1,200 megawatts. Following the strike, Dana Gas said on 27 July that gas production would be "carefully and gradually increased" after receiving updated security assessments and assurances from senior KRG and Iraqi federal officials, and output was still ramping up in early August. This attack came days after Dana Gas had already suspended Khor Mor's main production on 16 July over separate, unspecified "credible security threats" tied to the wider regional conflict — a precautionary halt during which Iraq's Ministry of Electricity separately warned the national grid could lose up to 1,400 megawatts, a distinct warning from the roughly 1,200 megawatts the federal grid actually lost once this later missile strike halted gas flow.
