Khor Mor gas field

What happened

Khor Mor, Iraq's largest non-associated gas field, is operated by the Pearl Petroleum consortium: Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum each hold a 35% stake as joint operators, with Austria's OMV, Hungary's MOL and Germany's RWE each holding 10%. The field holds estimated reserves of about 8.2 trillion cubic feet. Its processing plant and roughly 180 km of pipeline supply power stations at Chemchemal, Bazian and Erbil that together generate more than 2,000 MW, fueling over 80% of Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) electricity generation and serving more than six million people; that supply underpins the KRG's "Runaki" program, which aims to deliver round-the-clock electricity region-wide and had reportedly reached over 90% of the KRI by 2026. Before the 2025 KM250 expansion, the field produced about 15,200 barrels per day of condensate and 1,070 tonnes per day of LPG in addition to gas; KM250 added roughly 7,000 bbl/d of condensate and 460 tonnes/day of LPG alongside its 250 MMscf/d of new gas-processing capacity. The field has been repeatedly attacked since 2022, most recently in the 27–28 July 2026 missile strike detailed in the separate dated entry for that incident, each time causing outsized effects on KRI power because of the field's dominant, largely single-point role in regional generation.
