Magellan terminal, Corpus Christi — bulk fuel depot tank fire

5 December 2020

Corpus Christi, Texas, United States

What happened

A contract crew cleaning residual crude oil from the bottom of a storage tank at Magellan's Corpus Christi terminal was working when a spark ignited a fire that erupted roughly 40 minutes later. Seven contract workers with Shelton Services were injured, six treated and released, and one later died. This is a bulk fuel-storage-terminal incident, distinct from a refinery, and was accidental, not an attack.
