What happened

In Warning 120-26, UK Maritime Trade Operations said the master of an oil tanker reported that an unknown projectile struck the vessel approximately 9 nautical miles northeast of Ash Shishah, Oman. The impact damaged the engine room and disabled the tanker. The crew were reported safe, while the environmental impact was unknown at the time of the initial warning. Authorities were investigating and UKMTO did not identify the projectile's source or assign responsibility. Seatrade Maritime subsequently identified the vessel as the Liberian-flagged Aframax tanker Metro Venetian; that identification was not included in UKMTO's initial notice and is therefore retained as reported rather than official vessel confirmation.
