Yemen's internationally recognised government said six Houthi ballistic missiles struck the government-held port of al-Makha on 14 August, killing at least four people and setting fire to the facility, according to Al Jazeera. In an army statement reported the following day, officials gave an earlier casualty breakdown of one port-security official killed, two sailors missing and at least eight civilians injured. Military spokesperson Colonel Majid al-Nuzaili described al-Makha as a key entry point for food and goods and accused the Houthis of trying to impose a 'suffocating siege' on the Yemeni people. It was not immediately clear how that earlier breakdown reconciled with the separately reported later government toll of at least four dead. The Associated Press independently corroborated that Houthi missiles targeted the port's infrastructure and that a fire broke out, but AP could not independently verify the casualty toll; a government military spokesman initially could not say whether anyone had been killed or wounded. The port strike formed part of a wider round of attacks reported the same day. Al Arabiya, as relayed by TASS, said government forces intercepted 15 of 44 drones, while a separate attempt to strike an oil tanker in the Bab al-Mandeb strait involved six mined boats, three of which were intercepted. The weapon, casualty and missing-person figures therefore remain attributed to Yemen's government rather than independently confirmed.
