What happened

A fire broke out at the Song Doc offshore platform, about 144km off southwest Vietnam in the Malay Basin's Block 46/02, while it was undergoing well-decommissioning work as part of Vietnam's first full-package well decommissioning project. Operator PVEP (PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation) said the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes with no casualties and no environmental impact reported; the cause remained under investigation. The field had ceased production in February 2024. Coordinates are approximate, placed in the general Malay Basin/Block 46/02 area southwest of Vietnam.
