Oil tanker incident
Aqua 1
1 April 2026
Qatar, off Ras Laffan
What happened
The Panama-flagged tanker Aqua 1, under charter to QatarEnergy, was struck by two Iranian cruise missiles north of Ras Laffan. One missile caused a fire that the crew extinguished; the other remained unexploded in the engine room pending disposal by authorities. All 21 crew members were evacuated safely with no injuries and no reported environmental impact. Some contemporaneous reporting places the attack about 17 NM north of Doha rather than Ras Laffan; both figures describe the same incident.
When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
