What happened

The master of an unidentified tanker reported that an unknown projectile struck the vessel in the Strait of Hormuz and damaged its engine room. UKMTO Warning 150-26 said the crew were safe and no environmental impact had been reported. The initial warning did not identify the tanker, flag, owner, cargo, projectile, attacker, precise position, incident time, propulsion status or extent of the engine-room damage. Some early secondary accounts assigned the strike to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and described a drone or anti-ship missile, but UKMTO did not make either assessment; those claims are therefore not adopted here.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
