What happened

A tanker's company security officer reported that the vessel was struck by an unknown projectile approximately 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu, causing a fire on the main deck. All crew were reported safe and accounted for, and no environmental impact was reported. UKMTO did not identify the vessel or assign responsibility. ISW-CTP subsequently assessed that the tanker was almost certainly the Saudi oil tanker AMZAN and recorded a Houthi claim that a ballistic missile struck it. ISW-CTP cautioned that the claimed weapon and exceptional range could not be independently established and that a drone remained possible. The vessel identification and Houthi attribution are therefore reported claims, while the projectile impact and deck fire are independently documented.
