The “Visitor counter” shown near the bottom of the map page counts visits by two-letter country code only, derived from your network’s approximate location at the edge server that handled your request. Each visit increments a running total for that country in a database; no IP address, cookie, device identifier or per-visitor record is stored, and there is no way to trace a count back to an individual visitor. If your country cannot be determined, the visit is recorded under a generic “unknown” bucket instead of being dropped or mis-attributed.

Your chosen colour theme, font theme, whether traditional map colours are on, and which map mode (Atlas, Detailed or Globe) you last used are all saved using your browser’s localStorage, not cookies. That data lives only on your device, is never sent to our server, and is never shared with anyone. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it. We do not use tracking cookies, session cookies, or any cross-site tracking technology.

The tip form on the About & methodology page lets you report an incident we may have missed. Only the fields you fill in — incident date, location, infrastructure type, source links and description — are stored. We do not collect or retain your name, email address, IP address, cookies, device identifier or any analytics ID alongside a tip, and submitted tips are not exposed through any public endpoint or shared with third parties.

Every incident on the map links out to its original news source, and the footer and About page link to services like Ko-fi and the Wayback Machine. Those are ordinary outbound links — visiting them is your choice, and once you leave EnergyWar.net you’re subject to that site’s own privacy practices, not ours.

Some optional map layers you can switch on — satellite and radiation imagery, live vessel positions, and similar overlays — are fetched from third-party data providers (for example NASA GIBS and AISStream) to render on the map. Turning on one of these layers causes your browser or our server to request data from that provider; we don’t control what that provider logs on their end, and none of it is linked to any identity we hold, because we don’t hold one.

This site runs on Cloudflare. Like effectively every website, Cloudflare’s network may briefly log standard request metadata (such as IP address) as part of ordinary operation, security and abuse prevention — that is a function of the hosting infrastructure itself, not something EnergyWar.net’s own code accesses, queries or stores. If what this site collects ever changes, this page will be updated to match. There is no mailing list or notification system to opt into, so please check back if you’re relying on this description.
