What happened
A fire broke out inside a hydrocracking unit at Iraq's Baiji refinery complex in Salah al-Din Governorate, the largest refinery complex in OPEC's second-largest producer, roughly 180km north of Baghdad. Iraqi civil defense extinguished the fire, and North Refineries Company said the blaze was a technical incident that did not affect production; no injuries were reported. The refinery had reopened in February 2024 after more than a decade of inactivity following prior conflict-related damage.
