What happened
Another boiler tube ruptured in Barapukuria's 125 MW Unit 1 on Saturday night, less than 24 hours after the unit resumed following repairs to its 25 April tube failure. The repaired unit had returned at about 22:00 on 1 May and was supplying 55–60 MW to the national grid. With Unit 2 out of service for years and Unit 3 under overhaul, the new rupture again stopped all electricity generation at the 525 MW plant. Officials did not disclose the shutdown until 4 May and estimated roughly five days to cool the overheated boiler water and replace the damaged tube. No casualties were reported. Reporting described frequent mechanical faults and noted that the plant has never sustained operation at its full installed capacity.
