What happened

Brazil's electricity regulator ANEEL recorded seven attacks against transmission towers in Paraná, Rondônia and São Paulo during the week after the 8 January assault on federal institutions in Brasília. Four towers were brought down. Investigators found signs of deliberate interference, including cut guy wires, and one tower on a circuit carrying Itaipu generation was reportedly pulled with a tractor. No electricity-supply interruption was attributed to the seven events. Although the timing prompted investigation of a possible connection to the anti-government unrest, authorities did not publicly establish that the same people organized the political violence and the tower sabotage; this record therefore does not attribute the attacks to a named movement or assert an attempted nationwide blackout.
