What happened

The Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier MV Cape Dao (IMO 9219020) was attacked while sailing toward India approximately 2.5 nautical miles off Oman's Musandam Governorate near the Strait of Hormuz. UKMTO reported that an unknown projectile struck the vessel at about 06:30 UTC, leaving it on fire and adrift. Oman's Maritime Security Center said the attack caused an engine-room fire and killed one crew member; a Royal Navy of Oman vessel evacuated the other 27 people aboard and provided medical care. India's Ministry of External Affairs identified the fatality as an Indian national and confirmed the safety of the other 19 Indian seafarers. A seafarers' union alleged that two torpedoes struck the ship, but the weapon claim has not been independently confirmed and is not adopted here. The attacker, cargo, pollution status and vessel's final condition were not disclosed. This is separate from the tanker projectile incidents recorded on 21 and 22 September.
