What happened

A 30-inch natural gas transmission pipeline owned by Enbridge ruptured near Danville, Kentucky at 1:23am, releasing about 66 million cubic feet of gas that ignited; a 33-foot pipeline section was ejected roughly 481 feet from the rupture site. The fire killed one person, hospitalized six, destroyed five homes, damaged 14 others, and forced the evacuation of 75 residents from a nearby mobile home park. The NTSB attributed the rupture to a manufacturing defect and ineffective cathodic protection. This was an accidental infrastructure failure, not an attack.
