What happened
A concrete-pouring platform collapsed during construction of a cooling tower at the coal-fired Fengcheng No. 3 power station, killing 74 people and injuring 2. More than 60 workers were on the platform when it failed, with additional workers waiting nearby to begin their shift. Investigators later attributed the collapse to premature removal of formwork before the concrete had cured sufficiently, combined with inadequate supervision. It remains one of the deadliest industrial-construction accidents in China this decade.
