What happened

A rupture on the Santa Cruz–Yacuiba gas pipeline released gas that ignited near El Pelícano, about 20 kilometres from Villa Montes. The fire severely burned a family travelling through the area. Two parents, each reported with burns over more than 85 percent of the body, died later in October; their children survived, while initial reporting counted at least five injured people in total. YPFB isolated the line and investigated how the leak and fire began. The reviewed contemporaneous reports did not establish a cause, so this record does not characterize the event as sabotage or an operational fault.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
