What happened

Armed pirates hijacked the Palau-flagged fuel tanker MT Honour 25 off Puntland on 21 April with 17 crew aboard and approximately 18,500 barrels of oil. Puntland's maritime police said naval and ground units recovered the vessel in the Dharin-Bar area of Bandar Beyla district on 29 September. Authorities reported that five crew members—three Pakistani, one Myanmar national and one Indian—were killed during the months-long captivity and four others were injured. Sixteen suspected pirates were detained and at least 11 reportedly escaped. The vessel was placed under Puntland protection. The marker is an approximate Bandar Beyla-area reference because the operation's precise offshore coordinate was not published.
