Keamari Oil Terminal — methanol tank explosion

26 November 2016

Keamari, Karachi, Pakistan

What happened

An explosion tore through a roughly 1,400-tonne methanol storage tank at the Keamari Oil Terminal in Karachi after workers opened the tank lid, killing two workers instantly and injuring several others nearby. The resulting chemical fire proved difficult to extinguish and burned for an extended period. This was an accidental industrial incident, not an attack.
