The Keystone Phase 1 pipeline leaked an estimated 383,040 gallons of crude near Edinburg, North Dakota, after a pipe manufactured with an atypical seam cracked, ultimately affecting about 209,100 square feet of land, including a nearby wetland — nearly ten times the initially estimated area. PHMSA issued a corrective action order for the Edinburg-to-Niagara segment. This was an accidental pipeline failure, not an attack.
