What happened

Romanian coastal warning ARN 153/2026, reproduced by SeaLagom, records Khoryv capsizing at 07:06 UTC+0 on 23 October and remaining afloat upside down at the time of the warning. This qualifies Reuters’ earlier sinking description; complete submergence is not established. The plotted coordinate is the warning’s reported position, not live tracking. Romanian naval-authority figures relayed by Reuters are nine rescued, one dead and three missing from thirteen aboard. Ukraine’s foreign ministry, relayed by Interfax, reports four Ukrainian crew hospitalised, including the captain, but gives fourteen aboard; that total conflicts with Romania’s thirteen and remains unresolved. Hospitalisation is not a verified injury diagnosis. President Nicușor Dan attributes the drone attack to Russia; technical attribution evidence is not established here. Clearwater identifies IMO 8138712 as an ore/oil carrier; actual cargo and pollution remain unknown. No verified reusable actual-vessel photograph was obtained. Updated on 24 October 2026, 11:35 UTC+0.
