What happened
A high-pressure cold separator ruptured in the Coker Hydrotreater Unit at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd's refinery, triggering a fire. MRPL said emergency teams isolated the unit and extinguished the fire by 2:47 p.m.; the remainder of the refinery continued operating normally. One contractor was killed. Contemporary reports differed on whether eight or nine people were injured, so the casualty total remains provisional. Reuters reported that MRPL cancelled export tenders for diesel, jet fuel and reformate after the incident. The reviewed sources did not attribute the rupture to hostile action or establish a refinery-wide shutdown.
When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
