What happened

The oil-products tanker Myra (IMO 9336490) was reported to have transmitted a distress alert in rough Atlantic seas on 24 October. The Press and Journal quotes the Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirming that an RAF aircraft established contact with 21 people aboard. The crew said the signal was activated as they left large swells; officials determined that assistance was not required and the vessel could continue its passage. This supersedes the earlier unresolved-response account, without establishing a machinery failure, casualties, evacuation or pollution. UKNIP’s reported alert coordinate remains an approximate historical reference, not live tracking. Conflicting alert-time accounts are not resolved into one exact UTC+0 time. The UK sanctions listing establishes identity and designation, not the cargo aboard. The existing IMO-matched archive-photo link is contextual; reproduction permission remains unverified. Updated on 25 October 2026, 16:01 UTC+0.
