What happened
NOVA Gas Transmission’s 36-inch Grande Prairie Mainline ruptured while transporting sweet natural gas. The released gas ignited, producing an explosion and fire. Canada’s Transportation Safety Board estimated that approximately 5.98 million cubic meters of gas escaped. No injuries occurred and no public evacuation was required. The marker is approximate.
