What happened

Fuel was discovered in a drainage ditch beside a blueberry farm east of Everett, leading BP to shut the 400-mile Olympic Pipeline system while crews excavated and located a leak in its 20-inch refined-products line. The interruption threatened jet-fuel deliveries to Seattle–Tacoma International Airport and broader supplies to Washington and Oregon, prompting emergency declarations in both states. BP progressively restarted the system after repairs and returned it to full service by 1 December. At least 2,631 gallons had been recovered by 9 December, but the reviewed reporting did not establish the final released volume or cause.
