Queensland Gas Pipeline — rupture and fire near Bauhinia
5–17 March 2024
Bauhinia, Queensland, Australia
What happened
A remote section of Jemena's Queensland Gas Pipeline between the Rolleston compressor station and Oombabeer ruptured and the released natural gas ignited, producing a large sustained fire. No injuries or property damage were reported. The operator isolated the affected section, interrupting supply to major Gladstone-area industrial customers, while market participants arranged alternative gas flows. Jemena completed repairs and began recommissioning the pipeline on 17 March. Queensland's resources-safety regulator investigated the rupture; the reviewed public material does not establish a final initiating cause.
