What happened

A large fire and dense black smoke were observed at a Saudi Aramco oil facility south of Riyadh. Associated Press, Reuters and Al Jazeera reporting documented the visible fire but said Aramco and the Saudi government had not explained its cause or disclosed damage in the reporting reviewed through 4 October. Yemen's Houthis formally claimed that they attacked the facility with ballistic missiles and drones and that the strikes caused the fire. Saudi Arabia had not confirmed that attribution. Online accounts asserted that storage tanks were damaged, but no dependable published satellite assessment, official statement or independently verified analysis had yet established the number or type of structures affected. New commercial satellite imagery, thermal fire-detection data and later operator reporting may clarify the damage. The record therefore documents the refinery-area fire and preserves the Houthi statement as a claim; it does not treat the attack mechanism, damage extent, casualties or production effects as confirmed.
