What happened
Saudi Arabia's air defenses intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory that targeted oil facilities in the kingdom's Eastern Province (reporting also cited Riyadh). Defense ministry spokesperson Maj Gen Turki al-Malki called the attempt a "terrorist" attack by groups affiliated with Iran, affirmed Saudi Arabia's right to defend itself, and said the kingdom "reserves the right to respond at the time and place it deems appropriate." No casualties or damage were reported. Iraq's government subsequently ordered an investigation into the claim.
