Statfjord B platform — North Sea gas leak
23 May 2022
North Sea, Norwegian continental shelf
What happened
Two leaks from holes in blowdown/pressure-relief pipelines in process area M10T released a combined estimated 285kg of export gas at Equinor's Statfjord B platform; Equinor shut down the facility and mobilised an emergency response, restarting two days later. Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority later found serious regulatory breaches in its investigation. This was an accidental offshore industrial incident, not an attack. (Note: this is the Statfjord B platform, not Statfjord A as sometimes reported.)
