What happened
The tanker MT Terra Nova spilled approximately 1.4 million litres of industrial fuel oil in Bataan waters, one of the largest tanker spills in recent Philippine history alongside the 2023 MT Princess Empress incident off Oriental Mindoro. Philippine authorities and the coast guard led containment and cleanup operations; the Philippine Coast Guard's Marine Environmental Protection Command coordinates such responses under the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan. The marker location is approximate to Bataan waters pending a more precise published position.
