What happened

JNIM imposed a blockade on major road corridors supplying Mali from Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Guinea and repeatedly attacked fuel-tanker convoys. Tankers and cargoes were burned, people were killed or abducted and Bamako experienced severe shortages. Milestones in the campaign, several tracked as their own records on this site, include a 14 September 2025 ambush near Kayes (at least 40 tankers burned), the 29 January 2026 attack near Ambidédi in which JNIM executed 12 truck drivers and apprentices, and reported sabotage of the Bamako–Manantali power line in May 2026. More than 830 fuel tankers reportedly reached the capital under military and police escort in early May 2026.
