What happened

UKMTO received a report from a tanker's Master describing an incident approximately 21 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman. The Master reported seeing a large splash and explosion in close proximity to the vessel; no damage to the vessel had been reported at the time of the notice. The vessel identity, cargo, explosion source, and responsibility were not established in the notice.
