Unidentified cargo vessel — projectile strike off al-Makha

What happened

UK Maritime Trade Operations classified Warning 110-26 as an attack after receiving a report that a cargo vessel in the southern Red Sea off al-Makha had been hit by an unknown projectile, resulting in casualties. An earlier account from British maritime-security company Vanguard said two crew members — one Pakistani and one Indonesian — were killed aboard the commercial vessel and four others — three Pakistani and one Indonesian — were injured. Vanguard said a Yemeni Navy vessel deployed to assist then came under fire, causing an additional fatality. Yemen's Transport Ministry subsequently raised the death toll to four and said Houthi forces fired three ballistic missiles at the ship, followed by an additional missile toward rescue teams attempting to reach it, wounding a Yemeni rescuer. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar later said three Pakistani nationals were killed and one was injured. He condemned the attack on what he described as a non-combatant commercial vessel and said Pakistan was coordinating with Saudi authorities and Yemen's internationally recognised government. Yemen's Coast Guard has now raised the wider reported toll to six people killed and 10 injured. Dar's statement clarifies part of the nationality breakdown but does not account for every casualty in the latest aggregate, and the successive reports remain unreconciled in other respects. The Houthis had not immediately commented. The timing, vessel description and overlapping location indicate this is likely an update to UKMTO 110-26, but the reviewed sources did not explicitly cross-reference one another, so that linkage remains provisional. The reports did not identify the vessel, flag, cargo, damage extent, environmental impact, exact position or incident time. The marker is therefore an approximate offshore reference near al-Makha and is not placed in Sudan; the Sudan label supplied with the original report described an external map's viewport. This is separate from the missile and drone attacks on al-Makha city and port on 9 August.
