What happened

Russia's Defence Ministry claimed that Russian forces struck an unidentified dry-cargo vessel carrying military supplies while it was underway in the Black Sea south of Odesa during the evening of 4 October or overnight into 5 October. Reuters relayed the statement, but the ministry did not publish the vessel's name, flag, IMO number, owner, exact position, crew condition, cargo details or damage assessment. No vessel operator, Ukrainian authority, maritime-security body or independently verified imagery had corroborated the event in the reviewed reporting. The marker is an approximate offshore reference and must not be read as the vessel's reported position.
