What happened

AFP reported that the IRGC claimed it struck an unnamed supertanker in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, 12 October, causing a fire. Its allegation that the vessel disabled its transponders and ignored warnings is also unverified. No vessel name, IMO number, casualty count, pollution assessment or independent confirmation was supplied. This claim is not matched to UKMTO’s delayed reports concerning 11 October and must not be treated as their corroboration. No actual-vessel photograph can be verified without an identity.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
