DISPUTED CLAIM — POSSIBLE PROPAGANDA OR MISINFORMATION. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said an unidentified supertanker caught fire and stopped after striking two naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM directly denied the account, stating that no ships had hit mines in the strait and describing it as IRGC disinformation intended to intimidate commercial shipping. No vessel name, IMO number, operator statement, distress report, exact position, casualty assessment, pollution report, UKMTO notice or other independent maritime-authority confirmation has been identified. Reuters and other outlets documented the allegation but did not independently verify the vessel, mine strikes or fire. 'Supertanker' often denotes a VLCC, but even the vessel class is unconfirmed.
