What happened

A natural-gas-fuelled explosion and fire destroyed Zimmy's Tavern in Union, Michigan, and seriously injured one person. The NTSB's preliminary update said gas from a polyethylene distribution main was found in sewers and adjacent properties during the response. Nearby residents were evacuated and the road was closed while the operator isolated the leak and crews checked the surrounding area. The ignition mechanism and probable cause remained under federal investigation, so this record does not assign fault.
