What happened

UK Maritime Trade Operations Warning 143-26 recorded a time-late, third-party report that an unidentified vessel was struck by a suspected unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of 28 September. UKMTO said the strike resulted in a fire that was subsequently extinguished and that the vessel remained underway. The crew were reported safe, with no reported environmental impact; no damage assessment was available. The warning did not identify the vessel, its type, flag, operator, cargo, route or destination, and did not identify the projectile or assign responsibility. This is a separate incident from the 21 September LPG-tanker debris strike, the LR STEPHANIE attack and the fatal 23 September CAPE DAO attack. Because the initial information came from an unnamed third party and key vessel details remain absent, the record preserves UKMTO's suspicious-activity classification and does not infer that the vessel was a tanker.
