Western Australia gas projects — Cyclone Narelle shutdowns
26–31 March 2026
Pilbara, Western Australia
What happened
Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle interrupted four major Western Australian gas operations. One of Gorgon's three LNG trains went offline; Wheatstone's offshore feed-gas platform tripped, suspending LNG and domestic-gas production; Woodside reported a production interruption at Karratha Gas Plant serving the North West Shelf; and Santos's Varanus Island gas plant tripped. Operators inspected and progressively restored facilities after conditions eased. The grouped marker records a regional weather-driven operational disruption rather than physical damage at a single site; domestic customers continued receiving gas from portfolios and storage.
