What happened

A fire broke out on a floating gas-storage vessel and a regasification vessel at Damietta Port. Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed the fire on 29 July without stating a cause, and officials initially pushed back on drone-attack reports. On 30 July the Egyptian Cabinet said initial investigations had determined the blaze was caused by a drone — the first official attribution of the fire to an attack — while stating that no party had claimed responsibility and that investigations continue. Maritime-security firm Ambrey identified the two vessels struck at around 14:20 UTC as the Marshall Islands-flagged floating storage and regasification unit Energos Winter, described by Ambrey as US-owned, and the Bermuda-flagged LNG carrier Gaslog Salem, hit by a projectile near its No. 2 forward cargo tanks. UKMTO/JMIC's confirmed-incidents log (Update 079 to the JMIC Advisory Note) lists these as two separate serialised advisories for the same event: UKMTO 099-26 (the Bermuda-flagged LNG carrier — Gaslog Salem — struck in port, crew safe, small fire and minor leak) and UKMTO 100-26 (the Marshall Islands-flagged LNG carrier — Energos Winter — crew abandoned ship, vessel towed out of port and held by tugs). JMIC noted both advisories were issued for serialisation purposes only and would not be separately published since Damietta falls outside UKMTO's normal geographic Voluntary Reporting Area. The Energos Winter's crew reported a fire and moved the vessel away from the terminal; the Gaslog Salem's crew extinguished a small fire and reported a minor leak. All personnel on both vessels, including the Gaslog Salem's 25 crew, were reported safe. No injuries were reported; energy analytics firm Kpler said both ships were damaged and operations disrupted at one of Egypt's main gas-import terminals. The marker is placed at Damietta Port.
