What happened
The Bermuda-flagged LNG carrier GasLog Shanghai was struck by an unidentified projectile while departing the Strait of Hormuz, about 11 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman. The strike damaged the engine room, causing a fire the crew extinguished and a temporary blackout that left the vessel not under command. GasLog said everyone aboard was safe and the vessel was stable, and activated its emergency response plan without disclosing the extent of the damage. The incident came within about an hour of a separate UKMTO report of a large splash and explosion near another tanker 21 NM northeast of Khasab, Oman, which reported no damage; it was not immediately clear if the two were connected.

Attribution

UKMTO's warning and GasLog's own statement did not attribute the strike to any party. It was the second confirmed hit on a Qatari LNG carrier in the Strait of Hormuz within about a month, after the Al Rekayyat on 6 July.
