What happened

An explosion and fire at a liquefied-petroleum-gas cylinder filling station in the Chaman neighborhood of Karshi District killed six people and injured five. Uzbekistan's Ministry of Emergency Situations said five rescue units arrived at 2:02 p.m., contained the fire at 2:05 p.m. and extinguished it at 2:55 p.m. Preliminary assessments recorded damage to two underground fuel-storage tanks and four vehicles, including two gas-transport vehicles. The injured were taken to hospital. A government commission was established to assist victims, oversee the response and determine the cause; no cause was established in the reviewed reporting.
