What happened

JNIM fighters attacked a military-escorted convoy of at least 40 fuel trucks travelling from Diboli to Kayes, triggering an exchange of fire with the army escort before shifting to the convoy's rear. At least 12 trucks were burned and Human Rights Watch documented that JNIM fighters captured and summarily executed 10 truck drivers and 2 teenage apprentices, whose bodies were recovered two weeks later blindfolded, hands tied, with their throats slit. HRW geolocated video and satellite imagery of the smoke plume to confirm the site, about 7 km south of Ambidédi village and 43 km from Kayes. Malian authorities did not publicly comment on the incident or respond to HRW's request for comment. This followed months of JNIM blockading fuel routes into Bamako since September 2025.
