What happened
Crude oil spilled from an Oando flowline at Azuzuama in Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa State. Public reports differ on the start date and pipe description: one identifies a 25 June rupture on the six-inch Azuzuama–Tebidaba flowline, while Oando's later statement gives 27 June and calls it the four-inch Azuzuama-1 flowline. Oando activated emergency response and worked with NOSDRA, the Bayelsa environment ministry and community representatives on a Joint Investigation Visit, containment, repair and remediation. The company and participating officials said ultrasonic testing and visible marks indicated induced corrosion from deliberate third-party interference, reportedly acid applied to the top of the pipe. Community representatives disputed the sabotage conclusion and argued the process excluded their evidence. No agreed spill volume or production impact was published, so the marker is approximate and the cause is explicitly recorded as disputed.
