What happened

Residents of Odu community in Rivers State reported that armed attackers fired around local oil and gas infrastructure over several nights before using dynamite on pipelines associated in the report with Shell and Nigerian Agip Oil Company. A reported Shell-line blast ignited a fire that continued into the following day; attackers allegedly returned and dynamited an Agip gas line early on 18 June, producing a strong gas leak that drove residents into nearby communities and surrounding bush because of breathing difficulty. The report described the affected corridor as part of the Trans-Niger pipeline area, but it did not publish asset identifiers, establish ownership of each damaged segment, quantify lost flow, document casualties, or include operator or government confirmation of the attack sequence. The perpetrators were not identified. This record therefore preserves the community account as reported rather than treating every ownership, Trans-Niger linkage or operational-impact detail as confirmed.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
