What happened

A fire broke out at Eni's proprietary EST (Eni Slurry Technology) heavy-residue conversion plant at its 200,000 bbl/d Sannazzaro de' Burgondi refinery, which had begun a 30-day maintenance period on 6 November. No injuries were reported; Eni shut down and isolated the EST plant from the rest of the refinery while damage was assessed. This was an accidental industrial incident, not an attack.
