Sharara export pipeline — valve leak and fire

18–30 March 2026

Bir al-Marhan, south of Zintan, Libya

What happened

A leak at valve 13 on kilometer 538 of the Sharara-to-Zawiya crude export pipeline caused a fire near Bir al-Marhan. Libya's NOC said there were no casualties and Sharara production did not stop completely: roughly half remained operational through alternate routes, while El Feel paused temporarily to make pipeline capacity available. Repairs and safety testing were completed and full production was restored by 30 March.
