ReCAAP recorded 108 piracy and armed-robbery incidents in the Singapore Strait in 2025, a 19-year high and a 74% rise from 62 in 2024. Most were opportunistic night-time theft of engine parts and scrap rather than violent hijackings; incidents declined after Indonesian Marine Police made arrests from August 2025.
