Sleipner B platform — high-voltage room fire
22 October 2024 · 04:35 local time
Norwegian North Sea
What happened
A fire destroyed a variable-speed drive in Sleipner B's high-voltage room, causing smoke, soot and firefighting-water damage and a prolonged production shutdown. The normally unmanned platform was empty, so nobody was endangered. Havtil considered an electrical fault the most likely cause but could not determine it conclusively, and identified seven regulatory breaches.
