What happened

Ukraine's General Staff said Ukrainian forces struck the Tamanneftegaz oil and petroleum-products terminal at Volna on the Taman Peninsula during the night of 19–20 August, with a fire reported at the site. Reuters relayed the Ukrainian military's claim. Ukraine's Defence Intelligence later said the tank farm and elements of the main oil pipelines were damaged and that a large fire followed. That component-level damage description remains a claim by a party to the conflict: no independent assessment established the number of tanks or pipeline sections affected, whether exports were interrupted, or whether there were casualties or pollution. This is a new strike distinct from the terminal attacks recorded on 14 June and 30 July 2026. A reported strike on the nearby 500 kV Taman electrical substation during the same overnight wave is recorded separately because it is a different facility and infrastructure system.
